Renovation Ameland ferry causeway
The Ameland ferry causeway is due for major maintenance work. The constructions, installations and site layout have reached the end of their estimated useful life. For that reason, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management will be carrying out phased maintenance work between January 2026 and the end of the year.
The renovations are part of the maintenance programme “Waddenveerhavens” and consist of:
- Modernisation of cables and pipes;
- Modification of the courtyard and passenger areas;
- Maintenance work on the car bridge and pedestrian bridges;
- Modernisation and conservation of the quay constructions;
- Improvement of the site layout and formation lanes.

Renovation and maintenance “Waddenveerhavens”
The renovation and maintenance work on the Ameland ferry causeway is part of the Renovation and maintenance “Waddenveerhavens” project. The work is carried out by the building combination Spie, Schagen and de Boer & de Groot. The work only affects the concession area of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat). The Municipality of Ameland is the owner of the other part of the ferry causeway and is responsible for any work carried out there. The work to be carried out by the Municipality of Ameland is still in the planning stages.
