Organisation

An ambitious ferry service that has been transporting passengers to and from the Wadden Islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog for more than a century, season after season. All in an unrivalled and dynamic nature reserve. Safe and responsible navigation with respect for nature on the Wadden Sea World Heritage site. This is evident in everything we do: our policy, our working methods, and our employees, who are always ready to go the extra yard.

In April 2014, the Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment granted the Waddenveren Oost Concession to us for a period of 15 years. We have been a reliable partner of the government for more than a century. We fully intend to keep the concession after 2029. This is why we always raise the bar when it comes to service, quality, safety and customer satisfaction.

We want our passengers to feel comfortable on board and travel with first-class equipment. Safety, quality and continuity are paramount. Our passengers and employees can count on that.

CO² compensation

Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten offers its passengers the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable environment. Passengers can pay a voluntary surcharge on top of their ticket to offset the CO² emissions of their journey.

The contribution of our passengers is 100% for the benefit of the CO² Compensatiefonds (the CO² Compensation Fund), which was set up in February 2019. This foundation is not for profit and the board allocates funds to local sustainability projects on the islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten guarantees a minimum contribution to the fund of € 30,000.

The Municipality of Ameland, the Municipality of Schiermonnikoog and the village boards on both islands are on the board of committee that proposes the sustainability projects to be subsidized.

Our Fleet

We use four ferries and two fast ferries for the crossing to and from Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. All operate according a fixed timetable, and the water taxis can be reserved on demand. Check out the current position of our vessels.

Collaboration

We encourage sustainable partnerships with (island-based) entrepreneurs and organisations. By doing so, we maintain close cooperation with COBA (Commission Consultation Boat Service Ameland) and COBS (Commission Consultation Boat Service Schiermonnikoog) to continuously improve the quality of our services and to keep a clear view of the wishes and experiences of our passengers. We discuss and test important matters concerning our services with and at these consultative bodies.

Sponsorship

We are not only a logistics connector; we are also a social connector. As a sponsor, we support various sports, cultural and social initiatives on Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.

There is always something to do and experience. We are proud to be the main sponsor of major events, such as MTB-Ameland, Tri-Ambla, Tussen Slik en Zand, Ameland Adventure, Madness Festival, Roggefeest, Fryslân Culinair, het Nationaal Concours Hippique Schiermonnikoog (National Equestrian event), Ode aan de Wadden and the Kunstmaand Ameland (Ameland Art month).

We also sponsor numerous large and small island initiatives: from helping sports clubs with the transportation of their teams, to day trips for the residents of the retirement home. It’s all about doing something for others.
